Overview/Job Summary:

 

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer with a passion for providing excellent leadership, resilient customer solutions, technical depth, and strong interpersonal skills.  You should be self-motivated with a proven track record of success. You must be able to think strategically about the business, create technical definition around customer objectives, develop strategies and solutions for complex ideas, and work with cross-functional teams to deliver results.

 

Responsibilities/Key Tasks:

Cloud Engineering: 

  • Support the design, development and deployment of high performance, secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud solutions on AWS, aligning with business requirements and best practices.  
  • Demonstrate high proficiency in AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, Athena, Glue, Lambda, VPCs, Route53, Cloudwatch, and other AWS services to build and maintain robust end-to-end solutions. 
  • Automate provisioning, configuration, and management tasks using infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
  • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to automate service delivery and deployment processes, aligning to best practices and security. 
  • Collaborate with teams to understand their application stacks and provide engineering solutions and support for deployment of applications and infrastructure to best practices.  
  • Participate in architectural discussions around application design and technology stack; research new technologies, prototype ideas and build new solutions.

Governance, Security and Compliance:  

  • Help to define standards, governance and security policies and the organizational roadmap for our overall Cloud strategy.  Implement and promote best practices that can be leveraged across the organization.  
  • Work with our corporate SOC to define and implement robust security measures and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, such as CIS, PCI and SOC2, as applicable.

Operations and Support:  

  • Manage and monitor all systems and infrastructure. Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems and management tools. Ensure our Operating Level Agreements (OLAs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) targets are met, and we maintain the highest levels of service and infrastructure availability. Provide Tier 1 incident response, troubleshooting and mitigating production issues to maintain operational excellence.  Define and maintain runbooks for improving operational efficiency.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, cost, resilience, and resource utilization, making recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensure all work is properly documented, including architectural diagrams, best practices, and standard operating procedures.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Minimum qualifications: 

 

 

  • Design Skills: Proven design skills to ensure that requirements are effectively defined, analyzed, and translated into robust, secure, and cost-effective solutions. Must be able to breakdown complex problems into manageable components/elements for systematic analysis and resolution.

 

  • DevOps and CI/CD: Proficiency in DevOps and CI/CD best practices, including expertise in infrastructure and application automation, virtualization, and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform, ECS, etc.

 

  • Security & Compliance:  A thorough understanding of security best practices and compliance standards in cloud environments.

 

  • Scripting: Experience with scripting languages like Bash and Python is a requirement.  Familiarity with GoLang is desirable.

 

  • Data Warehousing: Background in cloud/AWS data warehousing, encompassing design, implementation, and optimization is a plus.

 

  • DNS and Networking: Should have strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, and load balancing.  Deeper knowledge of the DNS and networking industry and architecture is a significant plus.

Provides solutions to issues in creative and effective ways. Understands the interrelationships of different disciplines. Directs the application of existing principles and guides development of new policies and ideas. 

Complexity & Problem-Solving: Understands and works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Determines methods and procedures on new assignments. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, evaluating, adapting of complex techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Work is reviewed upon completion and is consistent with departmental objectives. 

Collaboration & Interaction: Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise. Adapts style and uses persuasion in delivering messages that relate to the wider firm business. Frequently advises others on complex matters. May be accountable through team for delivery of tactical business targets. 

Typical Degree & Years of Experience: Requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree. 

Estimated Compensation: $130,000 - $147,000 Per Hour
