Applications Engineer

  • Location: Mount Laurel, NJ
  • Type: Direct Hire
  • Hybrid
  • Job #9471

We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to own and scale the core integrations, workflows, and database logic powering our supply chain operations. In this role, you will write complex T-SQL, build and maintain serverless C#/.NET Azure services, and keep our transactional systems running smoothly—with immediate hands-on operational ownership and long-term runway into AI-driven development.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and maintain application logic, workflows, and integrations across our WMS, ERP, and supporting systems.
  • Write and tune complex T-SQL — stored procedures, views, and queries — against large transactional databases and diagnose performance problems from execution plans.
  • Build, deploy, and operate Azure Functions and Azure Web Apps that power integrations and internal tooling.
  • Own production incidents: diagnose root cause, ship the fix, and improve the system so it doesn’t recur.
  • Integrate third-party APIs and EDI trading-partner flows.
  • Over time, contribute to and eventually help own our AI-application development (see “Where this role goes”).

Must-haves

  • Excellent SQL Server / T-SQL. Genuine procedural depth — complex stored procedures, query tuning from execution plans, indexing strategy — and the ability to work inside a large, undocumented schema and make it make sense.
  • Azure Functions (C#/.NET). Production experience building and operating serverless functions in C#/.NET — triggers, bindings, deployment, and monitoring — not tutorial-level familiarity. (You’ll also encounter a TypeScript/Node Functions codebase here; comfort picking it up is expected, and existing fluency is a strong plus.)
  • Azure App Service / Web Apps. Hands-on experience hosting, configuring, deploying, and operating web apps in Azure.
  • C#/.NET. Solid backend development experience.
  • Integration / EDI exposure. You’ve connected transactional systems to third-party APIs and/or EDI trading partners.
  • Production-support temperament. You can operate with sparse documentation, own an incident under pressure, and independently ship/stage solutions.
  • Curiosity about AI development tools. You already reach for LLM-assisted development in your own workflow — and, just as important, you can reason about when not to automate.

Strong pluses

  • Experience with a WMS, TMS, ERP, or other large line-of-business system (Datex FootPrint, Business Central, or similar is a bonus — but not required
  • TypeScript/Node experience on Azure Functions (our AI/MCP tooling ecosystem lives there).
  • Azure data platform experience (Fabric, Data Factory, lakehouse / medallion architectures).
  • SSRS / RDL reporting.
  • Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs or building AI-assisted workflows.
  • Cold-chain, logistics, or supply-chain domain background.
