5 Productivity Tips for Employees Who Work Hybrid

hybrid work tips

Many people are returning to the office, but not like they used to. The hybrid work model gives employees the flexibility to choose where they work and when it’s best for them. Here are five excellent hybrid work tips for employees who are looking for ways to adapt to this new way of working.

Tip #1) Remain Flexible

As a hybrid employee, you have to accept that every day will be different. Some days you may be incredibly productive from home, while other days, you may need to commute to the office for a team meeting. Hybrid employees must learn to remain flexible to meet the needs of their team. Be sure to account for communication time to coordinate meetings and calls throughout your workday. You should also consider the time zones and schedules of your coworkers when planning projects and deadlines. Flexibility is a key ingredient to navigating the hybrid work life!

Tip #2) Create Structure

Another one of our favorite hybrid work tips: Understanding how and when you work best. Are you the most productive in the mornings or after lunch? Do you prefer to stack meetings or spread them out during the week? Do you need to block personal time? Incorporate some structure into your day based on how you work best. Then, discuss your schedule with your manager to confirm it’s acceptable before communicating your plans with the rest of your team.

Tip #3) Take Time To Plan

Be mindful that everyone has different work styles, especially in a hybrid environment. It could take a little extra patience and coordination when coordinating with your team. Office meet-ups, brainstorming sessions, and virtual meetings require planning to ensure everyone is on the same page. It’s extra important to identify methods of communication, share your availability, set clear expectations, and confirm responsibilities for projects that you’re involved with.

Tip #4) Be Open To Receiving Feedback

It wasn’t until businesses had to adapt to a remote work model that day-to-day operational logistics became such a focus. Many businesses have invested the necessary time and resources to transition to a hybrid business model; however, that doesn’t mean processes will be perfect all the time.

As a hybrid employee, it’s your responsibility to adapt to the company’s way of working. Ask for feedback and be open to hearing ideas on how you can improve. For instance, you may (unknowingly) be hanging on to old habits, or you might just be used to doing something differently. Realize, you can always voice your opinions to your manager; however, there will be a period of time when you’re learning the ins and outs of the organization.

Tip #5) Become Fully Committed

Even if you’re a little uncertain at first, you may find that the hybrid work model is a great fit for you in the long run! Be patient with yourself and your team. Understand that your coworkers are adapting to a hybrid model as well. It takes time to develop a routine and synchronize with the needs of a team that is distributed between both environments. Believe in yourself, have empathy for others, and commit to the process – you can do it!

Give yourself time to settle in; however, realize at a certain point, the hybrid workplace might not be your cup of tea. That’s okay too!
